SUMMARY:2024/25 Nationals
DESCRIPTION:Enter Now!\nEntries close on Friday 31st of January…in only six weeks! ($50 late entry fee after that). Just do it NOW so you don’t forget (you can always change your mind and cancel a bit closer). \nENTER HEREEven if you are not entering at this stage\, please give us (the organisers) a heads-up via any means – email\, WhatsApp\, text – that you are planning on attending.\nBefore entering\, get your documents together (we known\, it’s a pain but we need them to verify you’re legal) and sequences sorted. We can accept pictures of your sequences but prefer .seq files please (contact us if you need a hand with OpenAero). \nNo Snoozing- get your entries in ASAP. Smoke your entries on in! \nSort your accommodation – ASAP\nNow is the time to grab your friends and get a Book-a-Bach or an Airbnb. \nMorris has the ‘Presidential Suite’ (hangar apartment) booked but may have room for friends if you are quick. \nAlso\, we have permission to set up a tent/camper/van ‘city’ adjacent to the Aero Club (like they do at Oshkosh). And there may be some rooms/beds in the Aero Club and “Ravensdown” hangar too. \nAll camping or accommodation at the Aero Club / Ravensdown is FREE (except for van rental\, if needed). This will be the best (and cheapest) place to be in Masterton! \nThe Aero Club has full kitchen and bathroom facilities to support us\, and a swimming pool too\, so we will have a fun time being right on the airfield. \nIf you have your own tent\, van or camper – great! If not\, let us know via the ENTRY FORM (or flick us a message) so that we can help sort out something for you – there are rental caravans available in Masterton that can be delivered to the airfield. \nWe can’t stress enough how important it is to sort out some accommodation NOW – Golden Shears is on too\, and that makes accommodation very scarce and/or expensive. \nSequences\nFor the 2025 Nats\, we are changing the format for Primary and Recreational only. \nPlease read the following carefully\, identify which category you are in\, and understand which sequences you will be flying. \nNote – there are NO CHANGES to the format for Sport/Intermediate/Advanced/Unlimited. \nDocuments\n\nSort your Aerobatic rating and BFR ASAP. Please chase your instructor to get your Aerobatic Rating renewed so you can get some practice in on your own and reduce the amount of safety pilot rides needed\, as this really slows down the competition flights. (But we will have safety pilots available if necessary.)\nMedical – make sure it is current for the comp dates\nLLDAs – if you need one (intermediate and above)\, you should have it by now. If you don’t have one\, you can’t practice or compete below 1500’AGL until you do.\nInsurance – we need to see evidence of current Third-Party insurance of at least $2 million.\nAnd of-course make sure the plane you will be flying has a current maintenance release and no outstanding defects.\n\nUpload these docs when you submit your entry form and bring a copy to the competition \nEntry Fees\nDo it straight after you enter (we will refund any fees paid if you can’t make it). The Club bank account details are on the entry form. Entry fees are based on the number of flights you are scheduled to fly (at $60/flight): \n\nPrimary / Recreational / Sports – 3 flights – $180\nInt/Adv/Unl – 4 flights – $240\n4 Minute Freestyle is truly Free\, due to the entertainment value and cost of your smoke oil.\nIf you are keen\, you can enter in more than one category\, in a different aircraft only\, and at the CD’s\ndiscretion.\nRemember\, you must be a paid-up NZAC member too. Membership is still only $35.00.\nLunches are extra (but FREE for registered volunteers/helpers/judges). We have found it much easier to plan and pay ahead like this\, so please help us to make the event run smoother. Dinners are extra too\, as is the awards dinner. But just use the entry form\, do some maths\, and pay the correct amount. Thanks.\nLanding Fees – this year\, Hood Aerodrome will be imposing standard landing fees on all aircraft – $10 per aircraft / per day (unlimited movements).\n\nThere may be hangarage fees depending on which hangar your aircraft is in – sometimes this is a donation towards beer. There is a question in the entry form regarding hangarage – please answer this so that we can help if required. \nTrophies\nWe need these back – someone else might beat you this year. \nIf you won something last year\, please engrave it with your name in the same style as previously used then polish it and either bring it back with you or send it to us c/- the Wairarapa Aero Club. \nAGM\nThis is your notification for the NZAC Annual General Meeting\, to be held at 1900 on Thursday 27th of February at Wairarapa Aero Club. \nIf you have any general business for discussion\, please send it to the Treasurer prior\, and/or be ready to present it at the meeting. \nIf you would like to be part of the committee\, or nominate someone who should be\, please email Morris or Andy. \nAGM Agenda\nThe agenda for the AGM is as follows: \n\nApologies\nMinutes from previous year and matters arising\nPresident’s/Treasurer’s report for 24/25 season\nElection of officers\nGeneral Business\n\nQuestions?\nIf you have any questions\, then please contact: \nOrganisers \n\nGrant Benns (0210629929) grantbenns2014@gmail.com\nMorris Tull (+971506449584/ +642102401094 when in NZ) morristull@gmail.com\n\nContest Director \n\nSteve Geard 021 351 645 stevegeard@xtra.co.nz\n\nPS – There will be beer and great food at the finish line. We are looking forward to catching up with all you crazy aviators at Hood Aerodrome soon

SUMMARY:2023/24 Nationals
DESCRIPTION:2024 NZ National Aerobatic Championships\n\n\n\n\nWhere:\nHood Aerodrome (NZMA) Masterton\n\n\nWhen:\nWednesday\, Feb 28th to Saturday\, Mar 3rd \n(practice day Tuesday Feb 27th) \n\n\n\nEarly bird Entry Closing Date:\nJanuary 21st \n($100 late entry penalty after this date) \n\n\n\n\n\nENTER HEREThis is our main annual event and all categories from Primary to Unlimited are available for entry\, including the 4-minute Freestyle for eligible competitors. The NZAC philosophy and intent of the organisers and Club committee is to help you have a safe but fun event; to enable you to have a go\, learn and improve; and to support your efforts to win! \nEvent Procedures ManualThe Procedures Manual for the event outlines the operational procedures used before and during the running of the NZ Aerobatic Club Nationals\, to ensure a safe and expeditious flow of competition. \nPlease read and understand this document if entering the competition to ensure a safe\, fun\, and successful event for everybody. \nRead the Event Procedures Manual HereTimetableThe timetable will be confirmed closer to the event\, and no-doubt amended during the event\, but here is a rough draft plan \n\n\n\n\nMon 26th – Tues 27th\nArrivals\, Box markers setup\n\n\nTuesday 27th\nAircraft Tech inspections / Official In-Box practice\n\n\nWednesday 28thh\nCompetition Start – Knowns\n\n\nThursday 29th Feb\nFree/Free Knowns\, AGM at lunch break\n\n\nFriday 1st Mar\nUnknowns\, LLDA refresher at lunch break\n\n\nSaturday 2nd\nFree Unknown / 4 min Free\, Prize Giving Dinner\n\n\n\nPlease bear in mind this is very provisional\, and dependent on category numbers etc.\, but also mostly THE WEATHER! \nAccommodationHotels/motels are in short supply because of the Golden Shears event occurring around the same time.×Now is the time to grab your friends and arrange your accommodation NOW! \nYou can utilize Bookabach or Airbnb etc. We have permission for you to camp in a tent/camper/ caravan (we can arrange the latter) adjacent to the Aero Club (like they do at Oshkosh) and there may be some rooms/beds available in the Aero Club ‘Ravensdown’ hangar (bring a sleeping bag). The Aero Club has full kitchen and bathroom facilities to support us\, so you should have a fun time being right on the field. \nYou can let us know your plans and/or preferences during the entry process. \nWe can’t stress enough how important it is to sort out some accommodation NOW. \nEntry FeesThese cover our admin\, facility and van hire\, and equipment purchase and replacement. \nAs per previous years\, this is calculated at $60 per planned judged flight (user-pays!)\, therefore the base entry fees are: \n\nPrimary / Recreational / Sports – 3 flights / $180\nIntermediate to Unlimited – 4 flights / $240\n\nMultiple EntriesYou have come all the way to Masterton and may want to make the most of your flying-time. Therefore\, at the discretion of the Contest Director\, you may enter to fly in: a) two categories (in the same or different aircraft)\, or b) twice in the same category (but only in different aircraft)\, as follows: \na) Two categories (same or different aircraft) – you are eligible for category placings and trophies\, but only the higher category will count for Champion of Champions or highest sequence trophies (e.g. Highest Unknown score etc.) \nb) Twice in same category (different aircraft) – you must nominate (before event commencement!) which aircraft will be your ‘scoring’ aircraft\, and that will also be the one you fly the Unknowns first. \nWe are trying to encourage more flying\, but not ‘trophy hunting’! \nFoodYou have the option to prepay 4 supplied lunches (Wed-Sat) at $15/day. This is highly recommended\, but if you want to bring your own\, that’s fine too –you can opt-out. \nDinner for Wed-Fri may also be prepaid at $20/day. We anticipate a Club-hosted ‘Welcome’ BBQ on Wednesday night. Opt-out available too. \nThe Prize Giving dinner is $70\, and is a fully-catered three course meal. \nNote – All dinners do NOT include drinks! \nSubsRemember you need to be a paid-up financial member of the club to compete\, however it is only $35… This can be done at time of entry. \nIf you are not sure if you have paid this year’s subs\, check your bank account (the membership year is April 1st – March 31st) or ask us. \nOur Valued Assistants\, Volunteers and HelpersWe can’t run these events without a bit of extra help and if you can join us for the week\, we will shout you lunch if you Enter and register as a volunteer. You may be shouted a few beers and a flight too. If you know someone who may be available and interested in helping us (like a Young Eagle\, ATC cadet or aviation enthusiast) please put them in touch with us. \nNO JUDGES / SCRIBES / HELPERS… NO COMP!×SequencesThe Known sequences to be flown in the 2024 event are available on our website www.aerobatics.nz under “Sequences”\, or within OpenAero under Library/2024/NZAC. \nThe Free Known figures (INT/ADV/UNT) for our 2024 Nationals utilize the CIVA 2023 category figures\, found on OpenAero/Library/2023/CIVA(category)Free Known. \nProgramsFor those members new (and not so new) wishing to partake in upcoming NZAC events\, this serves as a reminder of the various programs we fly at of our aerobatic competitions\, in accordance with the NZAC rules (which can be found on the NZAC website). \nNote – not every event will include all the programs\, so check the event notification/info as to which programs and sequences will be flown\, but at the Nationals we try (weather/time permitting) to fly them all\, as follows: \nProgram 1 – ‘The Known Compulsory Program’.\nSequences for Primary and Recreational do not change from year-to-year\, however for Sports to Unlimited we adopt the International Aerobatic Club (IAC) sequences from the previous season. Everybody in a particular category will fly the same Known Compulsory sequence\, and should arrive at the event having had ample practice(!)\, given the early availability of the sequences… They may be downloaded\, now\, from two sources: \n\nNZAC website – https://aerobatics.nz/ Choose your category under the Sequences drop down\nOpenAero – www.openaero.net (Library/2024/NZAC). Note – OpenAero works best with the Google Chrome browser.\n\nProgram 2 – ‘The Free Program’\nsequences follow a different pattern depending on the category: \n\nPrimary competitors MUST fly the Program 1 Known Compulsory sequence again.\nRecreational and Sports competitors have the option of EITHER flying the Program 1 sequence again OR creating their own sequence\, designed on OpenAero in accordance with the NZAC rules.\nIntermediate to Unlimited competitors MUST create their own sequences\, designed on OpenAero using the NZAC rules and the prescribed Free Known figures found in Library/2023/CIVA(category)Free Known.\n\nOpenAero is the place to design your Free sequence\, as the ‘rules’ for each category are builtin\, meaning only the prescribed/allowable figures are available for the category you choose to fly\, and pushing the ‘check sequence’ button upon completion will confirm compliance with the rules. The beauty of the Free/Free Known Program is that YOU can design the sequence to suit your plane and your style of flying. And you can practice it to perfection too! \nProgram 3 – the Unknowns\n\nPrimary competitors\, worry-not! You just have a third go at flying your Known sequence.\nFor all other categories\, the Unknown sequence for all competitors in your category will be provided by the Contest Director at an opportune time during the competition\, which will allow you time to think about it\, but no practice is allowed. This will most likely be Friday night\, to be flown on Saturday.\n\nProgram 4 – the Free Unknowns.\nThis is only for Intermediate\, Advanced and Unlimited competitors\, who get together to produce a set of five base figures\, which are then able to be used (with linking figures) to produce a customized/personalized sequence by each or any competitor or ‘team’. The chosen sequence to fly can’t be practiced\, hence it is still an unknown. Fun\, Fun\, Fun! \nProgram 5 –the 4-minute Free.\nThis a true freestyle program\, available only to Advanced\, Unlimited or invited pilots to display their skill\, flair and art in an airshow-type display\, and judged by their peers\, albeit to a published set of judging guidelines. \nThe BoxAnd here is the Box that you will try to keep your aircraft within. Good luck with that! \nDocumentationIt’s never too early to check your expiry dates of your pilot and aircraft documentation (Pilot License\, Medical\, BFR\, Aerobatic Bi-Annual\, LLDA\, Aircraft Insurance). We would like a picture of you with your aircraft too\, for our results/event media. \nYou should have these documents scanned or photographed ready to upload during the entry process\, however you can update/add your docs after you have made your initial entry. But we are not your mother – don’t make us chase you for them. \nPlease ensure your pilot and aircraft documents are valid for the period of the competition: medical\, BFRs\, 50-hour check\, Annual\, Radio and compass checks in case the Feds turn up. \nTrophiesWe need these back. If you won something last time\, please engrave it with your name in the same size/style as previous\, then polish it and either bring it back with you\, or courier it to us c/- the Wairarapa Aero Club. \nEntry processClosing date for early entries is January 21st – after then we will only accept late entries with begging AND a $100 late entry fee (bar tab donation) \nEntering early does not penalize you\, but leaving your entry to the last minute makes it much harder for the organizers. Commit!×We don’t need all your info straight away – although it would help – but we would like to know your commitment to enter and attend\, including volunteer/helpers. \nIf you must pull out at late notice for a genuine bonafide reason\, you will receive a refund. Likewise\, if we must cancel the event due weather etc. \nQuestionsContact us for assistance. \nMorris Tull\, Club President / Contest Director & Organiser\nmorristull@gmail.com \nAndrew Love\, Club Secretary/Treasurer /Organiser\ntorque_roll@hotmail.com \nGrant Benns\, Committee Member / Event Organiser\ngrantbenns2014@gmail.com

SUMMARY:2022/23 Nationals
DESCRIPTION:New Zealand National Aerobatic Championships\nThis is the opportunity for New Zealand’s top aerobatic pilots to battle it out in the Wairarapa skies for the honour and glory (if not huge prize money!) of being the “Champion of Champions”.\nEntries are available in all categories (Primary\, Recreational\, Sports\, Intermediate\, Advanced\, Unlimited). Known Sequences are published on the NZ Aerobatic Club elsewhere on this website along with required figures for the Free Knowns (for Intermediate and above). Intermediate and above competitors should also give some thought to Free Unknown figures for their categories.\nAccommodation around Masterton is in short supply (due to other concurrent events) so attendees shouldn’t delay in sorting a place to sleep. This year the Aeroclub and Aerodrome operator allowing us to camp on-site so\, if you prefer\, ready your tents / caravans / campervans and re-live AirVenture for those that have been unable to attend for the last couple of years.

SUMMARY:South Island AkroFest 2021
DESCRIPTION:So it is that time again\, lockdowns notwithstanding! Calling all aerobatic pilots/competitors/enthusiasts/supporters and all other aviators alike. Please find all  relevant info attached for the 7th Annual South Island Akro Fest\, now run at Ashburton Airfield\, hosted by the Mid Canterbury Aeroclub and Ashburton Aviation Museum. \nWe are all looking forward to spending the week down at Ashburton again this coming December. A huge thank you to Joe and his team at the Mid Canterbury Aeroclub for hosting us again this year. We have got a full compliment of categories open to fly in. Primary all the way through to Unlimited\, and the Vintage Class\, unique to the South Island Akro Fest. \nPlease read out latest Rules and Regulations \nENTRY FORM \nAccommodation: There are plenty of motel options in Ashburton. Mike Fowler has booked a large house\, about 10mins on the Western side of the Motorway. It will sleep 8-10 easy. Please contact him direct for account details and cost. Mike.fowler@inde.nz. We will have transport to the airfield from the house. It is an awesome spot\, a few of us stayed there for the Judges training weekend back in June. We will be hosting the Thursday evening BBQ there. \nTimetable: Please see the attached doc for the timetable. Pretty similar to previous years. \nWeather alternates: We do not have weather alternates for the event. If we do have interruptions\, we will drop a flight as required to ensure we can still complete the competition on Saturday. \nSafety Piloting: Please organize your safety pilot in advance if you think you may require one. I personally will not be available for safety piloting during this event but will be happy to assist with training/practice away from the airfield outside of the competition schedule. \nRental aircraft: South Canterbury Aeroclub and Canterbury Aeroclub have very kindly made their Alphas\, ZK-VCC and ZK-VCF available for the event. Sarah has booked VCC already. Each pilot will need to contribute a set fee for contribution of the ferry cost. I will supervise sign-outs for both aircraft. Please advise if you would like to fly an Alpha. If we have more than 4 pilots asking for the Alpha will go ahead and book the second machine through SCAC. \nVolunteering: We are always looking for volunteers. Some of you are aware of your extra roles assisting on the judging line this time round. If you are interested\, please get in touch. Whether it be helping with filing paperwork or scribing\, there is always plenty to do! \nRegistration: I have attached the registration form. Please send these through with payment to the Aerobatic Club in your earliest convenience. Cut-off for registration is 20th November. Once you have registered or signalled your initial interest\, I will send an invitation for you to view the Online Registration database so you can see what stage your registration is at. It is also an opportunity to see personnel allocation and your fellow participants. Note: Registration is required whether you are volunteering or competing.  \nContest Communication / Notifications: We will be using WASAPP for communication again this year. Please include your cell ph number in registration and download the app so we can setup the chat in advance. \nTrophies: Please return your trophies engraved and clean. \nSaturday night Prize Giving/Dinner: A huge thanks to the Ashburton Aviation Museum for hosting us for the Saturday night function. Please advise your attendance for this in the registration and indicate how many will be accompanying you. Pay direct on the night. 3 course meal\, fully catered. \nCovid-19: Under the current restrictions\, we are able to run this event. We will be following Mid Canterbury Aeroclubs protocols on this.
